Commission Procedure

1. MEETING: A preliminary meeting (or phone consultation) takes place to discuss the size, composition, and setting of the portrait, as well as the personality of the subject(s). Getting to know the subject(s) of the portrait is a key factor in the process of portraiture.

2. PHOTO SESSION: Once a general concept of the portrait has been established, Kari will conduct a photoshoot to gather references - either at the client's home, or at a mutually agreed upon location. Client and artist then review the photographic references together to ensure that the best references are found. If necessary, several photos will be used to obtain the desired likeness, expression, and composition. A non-refundable deposit is due at this time and a commission agreement is signed by the client. Then the artist sets to work.

3. SECOND and/or THIRD MEETING: Near completion of the portrait, a second or third (or more) meeting takes place to check the likeness and discuss any minor changes needed. The remaining balance is due upon the client's approval of the finished portrait.

4. DELIVERY: The client may either pick up the finished portrait or have it shipped to them. (Note: Depending on the medium of the portrait, the artist may opt to hand-deliver the portrait rather than ship it.)

Custom sizes or poses (i.e. half figure or full figure) are certainly possible; and Kari is willing to accommodate the client and their specific portraiture needs. Prices will vary accordingly.

Because every portrait is unique, feel free to contact Kari to schedule a consultation and discuss the specifics. All consultations are free of charge and there is no obligation to commission a portrait during a consult. All estimates given are for one figure and do not include matting, framing, shipping, or travel expenses, except where otherwise specified.

Approximate Timeframes for Portrait Completion:

Please note that all timeframes listed are estimates only. Additional details, i.e. complex backgrounds/clothing/double or triple portraits, require more time.

For the most accurate estimate, and for pricing, feel free to contact Kari directly to discuss your particular project.
