The view from Her Grandfather's Cabin

Details:

Ipperwash Beach, Lake Huron; Ontario, Canada

34.5"x 12.75" - Pastel Panorama

Commission

Private Collection, Maryland

Artist's Notes:

This painting contained many firsts for me: the first panoramic format for a pastel, the first landscape/waterscape, the first sunset, the first improvised clouds I've ever painted, and the first large expanse of water. This project took many hours of research on the wave patterns and general behavior of water - a challenge, as I've never lived near anything larger than a puddle, and have also never seen this location in person.

Testimonial:

Upon receiving this painting as a gift, the commissioner's wife shared her thoughts with the Artist:

"For years, as I have watched the sunsets at Ipperwash, I have soaked in the intensity of the colors but never been able to capture them.  Then Rick walked in yesterday with the absolutely stunning piece of art that you had done for me.  The colors are alive.  They vibrate.  I told Rick that they have a 'Narnian' quality to them.  I feel like I am there and there is no other place on earth that I would rather be.  Thank you for sharing your incredible talent with us.  We will treasure your work."
